DAY 01

Quito:  (D)

We arrive in Quito at the Mariscal Sucre Airport and will be picked up by our guide. Our wheelchair-friendly bus will bring us to our Hotel, where we will be given a short welcome briefing before we have Dinner. Overnight in the Hotel, with 16 remodeled rooms (in total 65 rooms), an elevator and a strategic location in modern Quito. All rooms come with private bath, television with cable service, security boxes, and International phone.
 

DAY 02
 MON

  

Quito, Visit of the Equator Line:  (B,L,D)

After breakfast we head north and after 30 minutes we arrive to the Middle of The World Complex, a tourist and commercial centre, where our guests will have the opportunity to straddle the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere at the same time. The Monument was constructed honoring the French Geodesic Mission, which came to Ecuador in 1736. The "Mitad del Mundo" (Middle of the World) offers us a wide range of attractions such as the ethnographic museum, an art gallery, a bullfighting ring, handicraft stores amongst other things.

A special attraction is the Inti-ñan Museum. Here we have the chance to prove, with a couple of interesting experiments, that we really are in the Centre of the World!

After lunch we continue our tour, dropping down in the Ecuadorian Cloud forest. Northwest of Mindo and at a lower altitude, is Arasha Resort . At 541m, Arasha Resort is in a transition area of forest between the cloud forest and the lower rainforest. The daytime temperatures ranges between 20 and 30°C with moderate humidity, making it a good all year round resort.

The Arasha Resort counts with 2 wheelchair-friendly bungalows with a capacity for 6 persons.

DAY 03
  TUE

 

Day activities in the Mindo Reserve. (B,L,D)

We start our day with a hearty breakfast and then explore the surroundings of the resort.

The cloud forest and subtropical rainforest of Ecuador are microclimates of great biological importance. The reserve consists of primary forest with an immense biodiversity, and boasts one of the greatest concentrations of bird species anywhere in the world. In addition to the vast array of birds, many of which are endemic to the Chocó bioregion, the area is home to over 375 types of orchids and a wide variety of bromeliads and butterflies, which we can experience visiting the nearby butterfly farm.

Lunch at the Arasha Resort.

In the afternoon we return to Quito.

After some time to relax in the hotel we get ready for Dinner, which we will have in a picturesque restaurant, overlooking the capital (PIMs Restaurant (Itchimbia))
 

DAY 04

Otavalo Market  (B,L,D)

Today we will visit the most important indigenous market of South America in Otavalo, 2 hours north of Quito. Otavalo is a small city of about 50,000 inhabitants. It lies at 8,300 ft above sea level in a spring-like valley, situated between the Imbabura volcano (15,118 feet) and the Cotacachi volcano (16,200 feet).

The most famous indigenous market of South America is held everyday and you can find an impressive variety of all kinds of Ecuadorian handcrafts. Indigenous people come from nearby villages and towns such as Peguche, Agato and Iluman, to sell their products. One may visit the workshops of these local weavers working on back strap and Spanish treadle looms, as well as other artisans at work making felt hats, knitting sweaters or weaving straw mats.

After Lunch we get on our way back to Quito. After some time to relax we get ready for dinner, which this time we will have in the Mariscal District, the tourist centre of the capital.
 

DAY 05

Free day at your disposal.

As optional excursions we can organize rafting tours, horse back excursions in the highlands, downhill Mountain bike rides, visit to the Teleferiquo (cable car up to the Pichincha Volcano) and much more (not included in the tour).

Visit of the Thermal hot springs of Papallacta   (B,L,D)

Termas de Papallacta SPA, Resort and Convention Center is located 40 miles east of Quito, the capital city of Ecuador in the heart of South America. You will find something for everyone's interest. The excellent service is complemented by the restaurant that serves a range of culinary delights to tickle your taste buds.

We will have Dinner at an Italian Restaurant on the way back from Papallacta.
 

DAY 07

City Tour. (B,L,D)

We will be picked up from our hotel in the morning and by bus we will head south passing residential neighborhoods and the Culture House and the Legislative Palace (Congress) where the rock murals that are related to the history of Ecuador can be appreciated. The tour will then continue through the Gran Colombia Avenue up to the Basilica Church and the "San Juan Mirador" from where you will have a beautiful sight of The Colonial Quito.

The bus will leave us in the Garcia Moreno Avenue, from where we will start our tour through the historical centre. We will stop at the Independence Plaza admiring the Cathedral, the Government's Palace, and the Archiepiscopal Palace. Furthermore, we will visit The Company Church where adornments and gold altars can be appreciated and the San Francisco Church, which was built during the 17th century. For Lunch we will direct ourselves to the City Museum, where afterwards we will learn more about the general history of Ecuador and especially Quito.

In the afternoon return to the Hotel and Evening Show and Goodbye-dinner at "La Ronda".
